Our focus is on Bordeaux blends. Each year we will concentrate on our flagship blend, Sixmilebridge Estate Cuvée. This wine will be made from the very best fruit from our vineyard. It can include all five of the Bordeaux varietals we grow: Cabernet, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Or it may include only three or four. It will just depend on the year and the fruit. What is fascinating is the many permutations of blends possible. It’s not just the different varietals. With blocks that have North, South, East and West aspects that can span 100 feet from top to bottom, our best fruit may come from the top of Block 7 and the middle part of Block 10 and the lower part of Block 5. Our job is to select the best of this fruit each year, sample many blends, decide what we like best and offer it to you as our flagship wine.
Once we have decided on the blend for our flagship wine, we will blend and taste the remaining fruit to find combinations that will produce wines distinctive in taste and enjoyable in every way. Some years we may make a single varietal wine like a Cabernet Sauvignon or a Cabernet Franc. Again, we will let the fruit lead us to the best wines we can produce given the special circumstances of each harvest.
We will produce a “fun blend” each year that we will call Paladin. It will usually have a Zinfandel base and we will blend it with different amounts of other Estate fruit. We will produce a Sauvignon Blanc that will be especially enjoyable in the warmer days of late spring and summer. Also, you might see a small quantity of Rose from us.
As we like to say, our goal is to make great wine that we enjoy drinking everyday. And we want you to feel the same way. Look for our first wines from the 2016 Harvest to be available in 2019. If you’d like to sign up to be on our allocation list, click here.
